TRW is a multi-billion dollar service and manufacturing corporation headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio.  Major lines of business, or sectors, include Space & Defense (S&D), Automotive Parts and Information Systems and Services (IS&S).

In 1984-5, Program management worked with TRW S&D to develop a Strategic Facility Plan to consolidate all facility operations for 23,000 employees (1984) concentrated in the L.A. area and position that business unit to effectively downsize and reduce incremental occupancy costs. In 1991, IS&S (the credit arm of TRW) had a portfolio of 423 sites in 243 cities, and again worked with PM to realign its real estate portfolio in several metro locations concurrent with that units reorganization and shift to reengineered operations. Those locations included:

bulletTRW IS&S - Orange, California
bulletTRW IS&S Financial Systems- Oakland California
bulletTRW IS&S Data Center & Operations Center - Dallas, Texas

TRW IS&S Business Unit Program

In 1991-2, Program Management assisted the new Real Estate director in the realignment of IS&S real estate processes and portfolio requirements, in parallel with a company-wide reorganization divestiture of "non-core" businesses and new reengineering activities.

Internal audits following this assignment, in 1993, showed annual IS&S real estate costs were reduced by 30% for "core business" facilities, apart from annual operations savings of 10%.

TRW IS&S Data Center and Operations Center

In 1992, Program Management was asked to again employ its Facility Planning techniques and Economic Models successfully used to evaluate the headquarters' relocation to study the consolidation and/or and relocation of IS&S' Data Centers.

Findings outlined in these PM economic studies allowed TRW managers to quantify benefits and agree upon a clear facility strategy and location for the company's primary data center and support operations. Following TRW's decision to consolidate the data center, and co-locate it with the major operations center for other TRW credit-related businesses in Dallas, PM assisted TRW in the evaluation of candidate sites for program compatibility and building efficiency. TRW subsequently leased and renovated an existing building in Allen, Texas. PM also programmed all office and technical space requirements and assisted in the selection and initial work of the Project Team (i.e., Realtors, A/E, Interior Designer, Project Manager.) The new Data Center (114,000 usable square feet) was completed in mid-1993, and general office operations (172,000 usable square feet) were relocated year-end 1993.
